2. Thesis Statement and Topic Sentences
The thesis statement and topic sentences are some of the most important parts of your paper. These sentences will not only guide your reader, but keep them engaged as well.
The thesis statement is the most crucial part of your paper. It will guide your reader and provide them with the understanding of what you will be talking about in your paper. This sentence will be in the form of a claim. This claim can be something that readers may even dispute.
Once you have your thesis statement figured out, the rest of your paper will be tied together with the supporting points of your argument.
The rule of thumb here is that with each new idea presented in your paper, starts another paragraph. And to make your paper flow and make sense to your reader, you need to have topic sentences that bridges one idea to another. An example of the end of a sentence of a paragraph leading into another sentence at the start of another paragraph can be found below.
Ex. 1:
"Water, unlike soda, is beneficial to the body."
"Water has many healthy characteristics that can make a person live longer."
You get the gist! These sentences will help create a rhythmic flow of your ideas so that the reader can follow along.
